For now, it is a mandate for us en masse to write our senators. They need to know that their actions in this regard speaks to their commitment to country over party. Many watching their moves may sway the decision. They cannot sweep this under a rug because we are watching them. I wrote a shareable letter for you to address this topic. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/nomination-abominations?r=3m1bs
I have yet to see anything from either of my Democratic senators that suggests either will do anything tactical, confrontational, or honorable to resist Trump**. It is as though I have lost any representation in government.
The need to act now is imperative, but unfortunately we're dealing with a number of difficulties. Many of us are exhausted from a brutal campaign season in which we left everything on the field. Then there's the stunning betrayal of our fellow Americans who either wanted this or were too ignorant to understand what it will truly mean. Finally, there's this overwhelming sense of helplessness as we watch many of our leaders and institutions bend the knee or do nothing to prevent the coming disaster. While there are a few actions individuals can do, it's hard to see them as meaningful when what we need is collective action.
