The oddest thing I've found out about myself ever since the lockdowns forced some introspection is that I will write out a sentence then on rereading it my inner editor immediately rewrites it to mean exactly what it needed to say. For years I had been lamenting the inability of any democrats to be articulate at all. Everything was fuzzy messaging & seemed to emanate from a place of having been made the victim seemingly because the republicans acted as if they were always right. Then Mayor Pete came along & his articulation started to change the game. At that point I realized that too many old democrats had too much power & the younger ones needed to take over & move the party forward. Young people today have an amazing ability to see through the crap we olds have tolerated & to be effective in their ability to change the tenor of any argument. And experiencing that change shocks the brain into awareness.

What a wonderful interview! “Weirdifying” is such a great concept and a beautiful tactic. Jennifer is so articulate about the complex systems at work both in trump world and in the online disinformation sphere. Wow, thank you for that!

The one thing I’d like to add is to name trump’s Malignant Narcissism. This wasn’t necessary in this discussion, but it adds a layer of understanding as to *why* trump cannot follow through on “rally around the flag” moments, why he always plays the victim, and why he is so thin-skinned about any criticism.

I highly recommend Sam Ray’s “Counter-Narcissist Intelligence” substack for some really deep dives into how psychology drives these compulsive behaviors.

Keep up the good work!
