"You can grow up to be president." Horatio Alger "The American Dream" "America is a colorblind nation" The Prosperity Gospel. "All men are created equal and have equal opportunities" "Sweet land of liberty" "America is the land of the rule of law." "One nation, under God, Indivisible."

Sadly America is turning more and more to mouthing of generalities as the only definition of patriotism. These are generalizations of aspirations, not current realities, but woe betide you if you question whether we have achieved those aspirations, or even whether we ever can. Pointing out that there is work to be done is Anti-American.

And we all grew up with these hopeful platitudes, that can't become real without working for them. They are almost in our DNA. It takes WORK to clear our eyes for what needs to be done, and way too many people prefer entertainment to any work that requires thinking. It is way easier to think you are a true American who will reach the American dream just like those who keep telling you to be patriotic because that's the way to the riches those tellers can afford to advertise to you, leaving out the parts that don't fit the dream.

No, Johnny, unless you invent the next Tik Tok or whatever, you won't become president, ever. The Rich shall inherit the earth is our reality. Even the threat of climate change means nothing to folks who have already purchased their fortress in New Zealand.

How can we get Americans to open their eyes? Beats me.
