Congratulations, you're not volunteering for treason!!
Celebrate by doing one of these three things to help rebuild democracy.
Things might feel a little bleak, but this is a fine moment to be grateful for one thing.
You are not about to become Donald Trump’s running mate. You're not about to fill a role that had to be vacated because his last running mate refused (at the very last moment) to commit treason and had a lynch mob sicced on him by Donald Trump.
You’re not J.D. Vance, who is now more Don Jr. than man. Or that other rich guy from North Dakota Rupert Murdoch wants. Or the few token other candidates being “considered” because of their sycophantic skill in the Suck Up Olympics.
You have your dignity. Your decency. And you don’t have to worry about fans of your boss drooling at your neck, wondering when they’ll get a chance to break it if you let daddy down.
So what can you, someone who cares about democracy and the best American ideals, do this weekend to ease some of that nervous energy skyrocketing almost as quickly as America’s embrace of clean energy?
Here are three ideas, and all of us can do at least one:
Give down-ballot.
Pick any candidate you like in a tight race. Join and support our Giving Circle that’s almost at 90% of our goal in Flipping Arizona. Back Run for Something to help dozens of young, inspiring candidates across all 50 states. Flip a seat.Invest a little time.
You can write postcards to young swing voters. Join a textbank to register voters in swing states. Or sign up for virtual phone bank to support abortion rights in Arizona or swing voters in California, Nevada or Arizona.Email something.
We will keep reminding you that email is more important than ever, given the enshitification of social media. If you want your friends and family to be properly informed and motivated, you’ve got to put the good stuff in their inboxes. There’s the John Oliver Project 2024 explainer or the story of the successes of Biden administration or a chance to be a part of an effort to create a new trifecta in Arizona. Or you could just let your loved ones know that Project 2025 isn’t theoretical at all. It’s already a reality for millions of women in red states. And we can do something about it by supporting abortion funds.
Almost everyone is talking about politics in some way by now. But most of it is complaining about things we have no power over. Ain’t that a shame, given all the things we have power over?
We have our necks. So, let’s give ourselves and our loved ones the opportunity to do things that make us feel better and make America better.
