The only choice is between two futures
And we’re launching the earlyworm membership drive over July 4th week to step up to this decisive moment for freedom.
This is how the election truly begins, with a bang that feels like a whimper.
You’ve probably spent the weekend talking to everyone you know about a debate that ended up confirming one of the worst narratives the media has used to justify their normalization of Donald Trump. And congratulations and condolences to those of you who had to deal with your friends and family’s concerns about the debate, the presidential race, and democracy in general. You are truly earlyworms.
We won’t get into the often ridiculous debate after the debate about things we cannot change, like who will be the Democratic Party’s nominee for president. But we will note this election obviously isn’t just a choice between two senior citizens.
It’s a choice between two futures and the country we want to be. It’s closer to the Brexit vote than the 2012 presidential election. And what we will be exiting if Donald Trump wins isn’t the European Union, though we’d probably surrender NATO to Putin, too. We’d be leaving democracy. Project 2025 will ensure that Trump has the plan and personnel to replace anything resembling freedom for all with theocratic fascism.
And some choices are almost impossible to take back:
That’s why we’re focused on what we can and must do now.
At earlyworm, that means being a daily source of news and actions that feed democracy at erlywrm.com.
That means all our special projects, including Flipping Arizona and the ever more important Project 2024, which exposes the plot to turn the government into the MAGA mafia, and The Quiet New Deal, which connects the victories of the last three years for a plan for a new four years the puts the needs of the workers over billionaire bosses.
Our plan is still to build a strikeforce of 2,024 earlyworms, the sort of people others count on for news, to affect this election exponentially.
We’re at nearly 500 earlyworms, with some generous rounding up. To celebrate the Fourth of July, we’re setting a goal of 600 members, free or paid, by Monday, the 8th of July. We’re inviting anyone who believes in fighting for our freedoms and spreading the good word of democracy to join us.
And as we begin this effort, I must thank you all for being a part of earlyworm. We had no idea if anyone would get behind this idea when we launched in February. While we’re still nowhere near what it would take to make this a sustainable venture after the election, your support has convinced me to make democracy my full-time focus until all the ballots are counted in November, at least.
It’s incredibly touching to get the support of those who have known LOLGOP online for more than a decade and have been willing to go along as I’ve evolved from ironic troll to overly sincere online activist/troll.
I especially treasure the support from a cousin who has been a public servant and a passionate supporter of democracy his whole life, with a keen view into how politics should and does work. We’ve never been close. But earlyworm has given us a chance to be part of something together.
And I hope he doesn’t mind me using a few of the kind words he passed on last week to vouch for what we’re doing here. They inspired me, and they hope will inspire us all to do a little more:
I am so impressed by all you’ve accomplished and look forward to seeing what’s next. It matters! Don’t get discouraged if your goals aren’t met yet or if others doing similar things (like Charles Gaba – whose Blue24.org will raise millions for Democratic candidates this year) hit higher levels. Every effort counts; we are all in this together. It’s a cumulative thing, and the time is now.
If you can spread the good word, we’d appreciate it.
Because that’s what earlyworms do.
